What's New: Office Communication Server

In October 2009, Ceryx introduced Hosted Office Communications Server (OCS) Standard and Hosted OCS Voice and Video to our Hosted Exchange 2007 customers. Built in the same regard as all of our services, the infrastructure has been designed to provide on-premise like performance as well as high availability through redundancy.

Hosted OCS Standard includes Microsoft Office Communicator client software, Communicator Web Access (CWA), Instant Messaging (IM), and Enhanced Presence - all delivered through Ceryx's Office Communications Server infrastructure. Organizations that currently do not subscribe to corporate-grade IM and Presence will benefit from an increase in productivity through faster communications. Organizations that utilize Public IM free services like Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Google Talk, AOL Instant Messenger and alike will appreciate the peace-of-mind that corporate communications are being passed through a secure and encrypted Ceryx-hosted infrastructure rather than circulating the 'cloud' in an insecure way.

Hosted OCS Voice and Video provides all that Hosted OCS Standard provides, but introduces the ability for two users to engage in end-to-end Voice and/or Video communications directly from Office Communicator. This can be accomplished from any end-point as long as both users have an Internet connection. By processing all voice and video communications through Ceryx's Office Communications Server infrastructure, we have eliminated the need for special firewall and network considerations to provide Voice and Video over WAN/Internet connections.

The adoption of Hosted OCS is the first steps for an Enterprise moving towards a more complete Unified Communications and Collaboration strategy utilizing Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office Communications Server and Microsoft Windows SharePoint® Services.

Enabling a user to utilize Hosted OCS is as simple as checking a box. Users are enabled through Ceryx's new 'Manage Services' user function which provides granular control over the functionality users are permitted to use.
